15 Things to Prepare Before Coming to Japan for Peace of Mind!

Hi I’m Nobu, I like traveling overseas and in Japan, visited 28 countries!
I’m a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter of English for 12 years.
For the people who are interested in and planning trip to Japan ,
I show you hidden local information which you have never seen and heard of through books and ordinary site!
You will find unexpected fun through my articles!
below is 15 Things to Prepare Before Coming to Japan for Peace of Mind!
Passport & Visa (if required)

There is no requirement for the passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay.
However, countries requiring a visa may have specific requirements, so be sure to check.
Airline Ticket (Round-trip) & Accommodation Details

You may be asked to present these upon entry.
It’s best to have both a digital copy on your smartphone and a printed copy.
International Credit Cards (2 or more)

Visa / MasterCard, etc. Have one backup card ready.
Also, card companies have stricter security checks lately.
If you plan to make large purchases overseas, contact your card company before departure for smoother transactions.
Small Amount of Japanese Yen (Cash)

Japan still relies heavily on cash in some areas, small stores and restaurants.
I recommend exchanging about ¥30,000 at the airport.
eSIM / SIM card / Pocket Wi-Fi

Essential for using Google Maps and translation apps.
Purchasing an eSIM online before arrival is smoothest.
SIM cards and pocket wifi are also easily purchased at the airport.
Transportation IC card (Suica / PASMO / ICOCA)

A convenient item usable on trains, buses, and at convenience stores, supermarketso and department stores.
Purchase at the airport train station.
Smartphone app are also recommended.
For iPhones, simply search for SUICA and download the app.
For Android, you’ll need a payment system like Google Play to download it.
Translation App (e.g., Google Translate)

Since English isn’t widely understood everywhere, download the offline Japanese ⇄ English feature beforehand.
Google Translate’s camera function can scan menus and other text.
It also instantly translates conversations, making it extremely useful.
Travel Insurance (Including Medical Coverage)

Medical expenses can be extremely high if you get sick overseas.
Be sure to purchase overseas travel insurance.
Basic Knowledge of Japanese Culture & Etiquette

Knowing customs like ,
removing shoes in specific places (Japanese restaurants, inside temples/shrines),
no tipping,
quietness on public transport,
not eating while walking,
and the scarcity of trash cans helps avoid trouble.
Seasonal Clothing & Comfortable Walking Shoes

Japan’s major cities rely on rail systems.
Travel involves taking trains, transferring, and walking to destinations.
Wear comfortable, well-broken-in walking shoes.
Also, temperatures vary greatly by season (hot and humid summers, cold winters), so packing seasonally appropriate clothing is crucial.
Which month are you coming to Japan?
International Driving Permit or license

If you wish to drive a kart in Japan, you must obtain one in your home country beforehand.
Without it, you cannot drive a kart.
Citizens of countries not participating in the Geneva Convention on International Driving Permits need a translated copy of their national license and their passport.
Medication
If you have a chronic condition and take medication regularly, bring enough for your entire stay.

It’s advisable to inform your regular doctor about your overseas trip beforehand and ask about your medication and any precautions.
Skincare Products

Japan’s humidity is very low in winter, so be mindful of skin dryness.
Portable Fan

Japan’s summers are extremely hot and humid, so a portable fan is convenient.
You can easily find them at 100-yen shops or convenience stores in Japan.
