Okazaki Shrine
It was built in 794, the year the capital was transferred from Nara to Kyoto.
It’s located to the east of Kyoto, the shrine is protecting Kyoto from the east.
The area around the shrine was inhabited by wild rabbits in old age.
These were believed to be messengers of the gods.
Rabbits is a symbol of fertile and people come here expecting to get baby.
There are many cute rabbit dolls on the temple grounds!!
Hieizan Enryakuji Temple UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple is the head temple of the Tendai school of Buddhism.
It’s founded by Saicho in 788 and has a history of over 1,200 years.
This temple has produced many famous monks from various schools of Japanese Buddhism, including Honen and Shinran the founders of one of the biggest Buddha schools in Japan.
It is called the mother temple of Japanese Buddhism.
And it’s registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The autumn leaves were very beautiful on this day!!
From the highway moving through Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hieizan, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Biwa.
We ate lunch with a view of Lake Biwa!
Hosenin Temple
A temple of the Tendai school founded in 1235.
It’s located in northern east of Kyoto.
The garden with autumn leaves is very beautiful and at the same time, you can enjoy matcha green tea and Japanese sweets.
Jakkoin Temple
It was built in 594 to mourn Emperor Suiko, who was a female emperor.
It is a nun temple with a quiet and gentle atmosphere.
