Our itinerary is Nara and Kyoto, the first and second permanent capitals of Japan!
Nara
Nara City was the first permanent capital in Japan in 710-794.
Until then, the capital was newly established each time the emperor was replaced.
Todaiji Temple
A temple of the Kegon sect, founded in 728.
The Great Buddha was built in 752.
Although the present structure is said to be 5/8 the size of the original, it is still the largest wooden structure in the world at 46.4 m.
The Great Buddha enshrined in the temple is the world’s largest bronze statue,15m.
It still attracts tourists from all over the world.
Kasuga Taisha Shrine
Located within walking distance of Todaiji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine was built in 768 to pray for the well-being of the Heijo Palace in Nara.
The famous Nara deer are believed to be messengers of the gods and there are approximately 1,000 of them.
Lunch
We had a set meal at a local restaurant.
Yummy!
Kyoto
Kyoto was the second permanent capital of Japan, from 794-1868.
There are 2000 shrines and temples here, 17 of them are UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES.
Kinkakuji Temple( golden pavilion)
This temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism was founded in 1397.
Its gilded three-story building attracts tourists from all over the world.
The gardens around the temple are beautiful and the reflection of Kinkakuji in the pond is exceptional.
We enjoyed Japanese tea and sweets in the garden.
How was it ?
