Aomori summer trip
I traveled to Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost tip of Honshu.
I enjoyed a cooler summer than Tokyo.
Osorezan
Mt. Osorezan is an 879 m high active volcano in the center of Shimokita Peninsula with a caldera lake called Lake Usori.
The landscape is desolate and unique to volcanoes.
Osorezan Bodaiji Temple
Osorezan Bodai-ji Temple, was founded 863.
It is said that the dead gather here after death.
And every year in July, many people visit the temple for a “kuchiyose,” an event in which deceased family members and other loved ones are transported by a medium to speak with living people.
It is a mysterious event, but it attracts many people who want to talk with their loved ones again.
Sanzu River
At the entrance of the temple, there is Sanzu River that connects this world and the next world.
Temple ground
The temple grounds are vast, offering views of hell and paradise.
There are a lot of pebbles stone works around the temple ground.
Windmills
Windmills are decorated everywhere in the precincts of the temple, making a sound of cara-cara-cara, creating a mysterious atmosphere of something lonely.
Lake Soriko
Lake Soriko is said to be the beach of paradise.
It is a quiet and beautiful blue beach.
There are many windmills on the beach here as well.
It is so quiet that it seems like you are in another world.
Onsen
There is a sulfur onsen( natural hot spring) in the temple ground.
It’s free.
It’s nice we take a bath after long walk of the temple ground.
Hotokegaura ( cliff of Buddha)
Hotokegaura is a dynamic cliff about an hour west of Osorezan.
The name literally means’ Cliff of Buddha’.
The unique view with its steep cliffs and many spires looks like the Zacrada Familia in Barcelona!!
