This is the coldest time of the year until early February.


It is cold on the Pacific Ocean side, such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima, but sunny days are common.


Snowy days are common in Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan side, Nagano and Shirakawa-go in the central part of the country.

Heavy winter clothing and coats are necessary.


Warm shoes, gloves, and a hat are also important.

On Setsubun day, February 3, it is believed that if you eat sushi rolls facing the direction of the year, you will be blessed with good fortune.

And many convenience stores, supermarkets, and department stores sell ehoumaki, a type of sushi roll.

Since it is cold season, nabe dishes are recommended.
