Climate

It will be hot and humid throughout the country (temperature: 25-35℃, 77-95℉).
The rainy season ends around early July in many areas, depending on the region, and hot summer begins.
Humidity is extremely high, and it can be uncomfortable outdoors.
Clothing

Lightweight short sleeves, shorts, and dresses are appropriate.
Wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect against the sun.
Since many facilities are air-conditioned, a light jacket is useful.
Bring a folding umbrella for possible rain.
Seasonal Flowers

Hydrangea: Remnants of the rainy season are at their best in many places until early July.
Sunflowers: Best viewed from mid to late July.
Sunflower fields across Japan become famous sightseeing spots.
Lotus: Blooms from early morning to mid-morning.
Seen in temples and gardens.
Ueno Park is one of the places.
Events

Gion Festival (Kyoto): One of the three major festivals in Japan, held from July 1 to 31.
The highlight is the Yamaboko Junko (float procession) on the 17th and 24th 2025.
Tenjin Matsuri (Osaka): One of the three major festivals in Japan, held on July 24 and 25 2025.
Hiratsuka Tanabata ( star) Festival
It’s held July 4,5,6 2025.
Local summer festivals:
Traditional summer festivals with Bon dances and stalls in various locations.
Food Information (Seasonal Food)

Shaved ice:
Shaved ice with fruit syrups, green tea flavor, and other unique Japanese shaved ice flavors are popular.
Somen:
Thin noodles chilled in ice water and served with dipping sauce.
Unagi (eel):
It is customary to eat eel on the day of the Ox in late July.
Summer vegetables:
tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, etc. are in season.
Information on Fireworks Festivals

Large-scale fireworks festivals are held in various locations (mainly on weekends).
Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival (Tokyo):
Late July. One of the largest in Japan.
They launch 20,000 fireworks !
Tenjin Matsuri Fireworks Festival (Osaka):
July 25.
They launch 3000 fireworks.
The festival also features food stalls and boat floats.
Nagaoka Fireworks (Niigata):
Late July to early August. One of the largest in Japan.
They launch 20,000 fireworks.
Early reservations are required.
Many Japanese people attend in yukata, which are very photogenic.
Other Tips & Cautions

Precautions against heat stroke are essential:
Drink water and salt frequently.
Avoid going out for long periods of time during the day and take breaks.
Insect bite prevention: Insect repellent spray is recommended due to the large number of mosquitoes.
Crowding:

Tourist spots become extremely crowded when students begin their summer vacation (from late July).
Public transportation is also crowded, so it is convenient to use IC cards (Suica, Pasmo, etc.)
Power saving may be called for (especially during the heat wave).
