Sanzenin temple
Sanzenin is located in the mountains northeast of downtown Kyoto, in the village of Ohara.
It’s once known as a retreat for nobles and Buddhist practitioners.
The origin of Sanzenin Temple is built by Saicho during the Enryaku era (728-806).
It is a popular tourist spot in Ohara, a mountain village in Kyoto.
There are many cultural assets including the national treasure, the statue of Amida Buddhas and famous scenic spots such as Shuhekien garden.
Entrance gate
The gate is located along the front approach to the Gotenmon gate.
There are several restaurants and shops.
Ojogokurakuin ( heavenly)hall
Ojogokurakuin Temple is an important cultural property.
And inside the temple hall there is a national treasure, the statue of Amida Buddhas.
The ceiling of the hall is characterized by its being folded up in a boat-bottom shape to accommodate the large statues of Amida Buddhas.
The ceiling is also decorated with scenes of the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, such as dancing celestial maidens and bodhisattvas.
It is a simple but somewhat dignified hall that can be said to be the center of Sanzenin temple.
It’s boasts a history of approximately 1,200 years.
Autumn Leaves
Thereare many places to see the autumn leaves at Sanzenin temple, including the garden and the entrance area.
We were able to enjoy many of them on this day!!
How was it?
