We took a one-day bullet train tour of Kyoto from Tokyo.

1: Shinkansen

Shinkansen ( bullet train)


We took the first Shinkansen to Kyoto station.

The departure time is 6:00am from Tokyo station.

We made it in time!

2:Fushimi Inari Shrine

5 minutes by train from Kyoto Station.

Famous for its 10,000 red torii gates.

This is the setting for the Hollywood movie Memory of a Geisha.

3:Bamboo Forest

Next, we moved to Arashiyama and visited a bamboo grove.

The bamboo grove is 10 meters long and very exotic.

4: Tenryuji Temple

Tenryuji temple


Next stop is Tenryuji Temple, a World Heritage Site.

This temple was founded in 1343 by the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism.

The tranquil garden is impressive.

5: Monkey Park

Monkey park


We went to Monkey Park in Arashiyama.

It is located on a hill overlooking the city of Kyoto and is home to about 120 Japanese monkeys.

Humans are allowed to enter the cages and feed the monkeys.

6: Gion

We enjoyed the traditional atmosphere of Gion from Hanamikoji Street to Kenchoji Temple and Yasaka Pagoda.

7:Yasaka Pagoda

Yasaka no to pagoda


Yasaka-no-to is a five-story pagoda in Gion, which matches the traditional townscape very well.

8:Kiyomizu Temple

I went to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a World Heritage site.

The traditional shopping street leading up to the entrance is like a throwback to the old days.

9:Tea Ceremony in Kimono

We enjoyed a tea ceremony in kimono.

Maikoya offers a kimono dressing and tea ceremony experience for 6,300 yen.

Our legs were numb, but it was a valuable experience.

10:Return to Tokyo by Shinkansen

Shinkansen in Kyoto

We returned to Tokyo by Shinkansen.

It was a full day tour of Kyoto.
