Oirase gorge
The Oirase gorge is a 14 km long stream that winds its way through rocks and forests to form waterfalls and clear streams.
It’s from Konokuchi on the shore of Lake Towada to Mt.Yakeyama.
It’s designated by a special scenic beauty and a natural monument.
And the stream is protected and has many attractions such as waterfalls, clear streams, and rocks.
One of the charms of the Oirase gorge is that it is easy for anyone to explore on foot, by bicycle, or by car.
Lake Towada
Lake Towada is the third deepest lake in Japan and one of the clearest lakes in Japan.
The surrounding area is designated as a national park. Lake Towada is a caldera lake with a circumference of 44 km.
It’s formed by volcanic activity about 200,000 years ago.
The lake is 327 m deep, making it the third deepest lake in Japan.
Furthermore, the clear lake water is about 12 m deep, one of the clearest in Japan.
Sukayu mixed bathing onsen(Hot Spring)
Sukayu Onsen (酸ヶ湯温泉) is a hot spring accommodation facility in Aomori that offers a spectacular view of Mt.Hakkouda.
It’s located at an elevation of approximately 900 m above sea level, it is well known as a highly effective hot spring with strong acidity.
A special feature is the large mixed bathing area, 1000 people bath room( Senninburo).
Mixed bathing was common in Japan until the 19th century, but since the opening of Japan to the outside world, most bathhouses have been segregated for men and women.
So mixed bathing is now very rare in Japan!
