Climate

•Extremely hot and humid throughout Japan, except Hokkaido.
•Average temperature: 27–35°C (80–95°F)
•Sudden evening showers or thunderstorms are common.
A compact umbrella is useful
Clothing

•Light, breathable clothing such as T-shirts, shorts, and summer dresses is nice.
•To prevent sunburn: bring a hat, sunglasses, and UV-protective layers
•Air conditioning can be strong indoors, so carrying a light jacket or cardigan is recommended
Events & Fireworks

•Fireworks festivals (Hanabi) are held across Japan, especially on weekends

•Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival (Tokyo) – August 16th
•Nagaoka Fireworks Festival (Niigata) – August 2–3 (one of the largest in Japan)
•Traditional Summer Festivals (Matsuri) with dancing, music, and street food all over Japan in the middle of August.

Foods

•Kakigori (shaved ice) – Classic summer dessert with flavors like matcha or strawberry
•Cold noodle dishes like Hiyashi Chuka, Somen, and Zaru Soba are popular
•Seasonal fruits such as watermelon, peaches, and grapes are in season
•Convenience stores offer a wide variety of cold drinks and ice creams
Heat & Sun Protection

•Stay hydrated and avoid heatstroke
•Drink water or sports drinks regularly
•Use sun umbrellas, hats, cooling towels, neck fans or portable AC gadgets
•Take breaks inside air-conditioned buildings
•Morning and evening are more comfortable for outdoor activities
Other Tips & Precautions

•Obon Holiday: August 13–16
• A time for family gatherings and ancestor worship
•Trains, airports, and hotels are crowded , book early.
•Shinkansen ( bullet train ) NOZOMI( fastest train ) is all booking seats 8-17 August.
Book in advance.
HIKARI, KODAMA have non-reserved seats.
•Insects (mosquitoes, bees) – use insect repellent when outdoors
•Public etiquette is important:
no littering, no loud behavior in public places
•Be respectful at temples and shrines ,stay quiet and follow the rules
