Our itinerary is as follows.
Ryogoku Station
We met at JR( Japan rail) Ryogoku station.
Ryogoku Station is the station where the Ryogoku Sumo stadium, the place official tournament is held in Tokyo.
If you go there during the tournament, you can always see sumo wrestlers coming and going.
Ryogoku Kokugikan( martial arts stadium )
Ryogoku Kokugikan is a sacred place for sumo wrestling where the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament is held three times a year.
These are January, May and September.
At the main entrance of the Ryogoku Kokugikan, there are pictures depicting old sumo tournaments and the championship cup.
Kaiko-in Temple, the birth place of Sumo tournament
Near the station, there is a temple of the Jodo sect, founded in 1657 after the great fire accident of Meireki( 1657).
It enshrines unrelated victims whose names are unknown, such as victims of the great fire in Edo at that time and other disasters.
It’s said Sumo tournament has started here for participants who gathered here to pray .
Chikara zuka ( thumb)
Chikarazuja is the grave of a deceased sumo wrestlers in this temple.
We took photo here.
Entrance ceremony
There is an entrance ceremony for upper class Sumo wrestlers.
Their apron has a different designs for each wrestler and very beautiful.
Sumo match
We enjoyed watching the Sumo match from 13:00-18:00!
We can go out of the stadium once during the tournament.
Yokozuna( grand champion) statues and hand prints.
Yokozuna statues and hand prints are standing along Ryogoku area.
You can compare the hand size with them!
Photo with Sumo wrestlers!
We encountered Sumo wrestlers on the road of Ryogoku.
We asked them to take photos together!
They are very friendly!!
Chankonabe ( Sumo wrestler’s dish ) party.
We had Chankonabe which is the main dish for Sumo wrestlers.
The main is the hot pot dish with vegetables, chicken, mushrooms and fish !
It’s surprisingly light and healthy foods.
How was it?
Why don’t you come next time?
I’m Nobu, one heart enjoy together!!!
