I climbed 924m Mt. Kaimondake in Kagoshima Prefecture, the southernmost tip of Japan.
It takes 1 hour and 25 minutes by air plane from Haneda Airport to reach Kagoshima Prefecture.
My family and I stayed at Ibusuki Onsen, about 20 minutes from Mt.Kaimondake.
It’s very popular for its sand onsen!
You should try once!!
Mt. Kaimon is located in Kirishima-Yaku National Park and is also called Satsuma Fuji.( Satsuma is the old name for Kagoshima)
The conical shape of the mountain is beautiful, and half of it faces the Pacific Ocean, rising directly from the sea.
Our route was as follows.
5:45Kaimon Sanroku Fureai Park parking lot
5:55. 2 nd station trailhead
6:30. 5th station
7:10. 7th station
9:35. Kaimon Sanroku Fureai Park parking lot
At the 5th station, the view opens up and the town of Ibusuki Onsen area can be seen.
At the 7th station, the East China Sea spreads out before your eyes.
The 360 degree view from the 924m summit is stunning!
The ascent took 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the return trip took about 1.5 hours.
The surroundings are beautiful and quiet, and I highly recommend it.
