The problems foreign touris face in Japan and solutions!
Hi I’m Nobu, I like traveling overseas and in Japan, visited 28 countries!
I’m a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter of English for 11 years.
For the people who are interested in and planning trip to Japan ,
I show you hidden local information which you have never seen and heard of through books and ordinary site!
You will find unexpected fun through my articles!
The problems are below.
1)Lack of trash cans (30.1%)
Lack of trash cans” was the No. 1 problem for foreign tourists.
Foreign tourists to Japan have a strong impression of the cleanliness of Japanese streets.
They are puzzled by the fact that there are almost no trash cans to be found.
The background to this is the poison gas incident that occurred in 1995, after which trash cans were removed from train stations and other public facilities.
Trash after shopping at convenience stores, for example, is difficult to handle.
Solutions
•Convenience stores have trash cans.
Look for them at 7-Eleven, Lawson, Family Mart, etc.
•Carry your own plastic bag.
And throw them away when you get back to your hotel.
This is the best way.
2)Communication (22.5%)
It is rare for Japanese people to be able to speak English fluently.
This is because Japanese people can live only in Japanese.
Solutions
•When in trouble, talk slowly in English to a Japanese person.
Basically, Japanese people will listen to you and try to understand and help you.
Even if Japanese people cannot speak English, they will try to communicate with you using gestures.
At convenience stores, tourist facilities, etc., staff will do their best to help you.
•Technology such as translation apps are evolving, use them.
Like google translation.
Speak in your own language and show the Japanese conversion on your smartphone to Japanese people.
3)Lack of multilingual displays and difficulty in understanding (13.4%)
Although displays in English, Chinese, and Korean are increasing, there are still many sightseeing spots where foreign language displays are inadequate.
Solutions
•Use Google Translate or other tools to convert Japanese displays into the language of your own country.
4)Use of public transportation (12.8%)
Public transportation such as trains and buses is common to use in urban areas in Japan.
Many foreign tourists to Japan who are not accustomed to using public transportation feel uneasy.
Especially in urban areas, train transfers can be complicated and confusing.
Solutions
•Purchase SUICA or PASMO, IC train cards.
You can purchase from ticket vending machines at major stations.
Children between 6 and 12 years old pay half fare, but you should ask the station staff and show your passport or something ID that shows children’s age.
•Learn how to use Google Maps.
If you can use it, you will know your options: train, walking, cab, etc.
See the train route and use SUICA, and PASMO to get around.
5)Lack of Wifi
If your smartphone does not have communication capabilities in Japan, you will need to use wifi to get internet information.
Wifi environment has improved in Japan, but it is still inconvenient in some places.
Solutions
•Use wifi at train stations, airports, public facilities (halls), etc.
•Use wifi at coffee chains such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Tully’s, etc.
•Use at convenience stores.
Seven/ eleven, Lawson, Family Mart…
•Purchase a SIM card at the airport.
•Purchase an eSIM online.
•Rent portable wifi at the airport.
How was it?
I recommend you check the above!
I’m Nobu , one heart enjoy together!!
