Nezu Shrine
I went to Nezu Shrine in Tokyo, Japan.
Nezu Shrine is an ancient shrine said to have been founded by Yamatotakeru (mythology hero) around the 2nd century.
In the Middle Ages, the samurai Ota Dokan donated the shrine building.
During the Edo period, Shogun Tsunayoshi Tokugawa moved the shrine to its present location.
The precincts of the shrine were originally the garden of the Tokugawa family’s mansion.
Many azaleas were planted, and it was called Tsutsuji ga Oka (hill of azaleas).
Approximately 3,000 azaleas are in full bloom from mid-April to the end of April.
Front torii gate
By 5 minute walk from Metro Nezu Station, you will be greeted by the torii gate at the main gate.
The azalea hill will also begin to come into view.
If you pay 500 yen, you can enter the azalea hill.
Senbon-torii (1000 torii)
Within the precincts of the shrine is Otome Inari Shrine, which has 1,000 torii gates similar to those found at Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto.
From Otome Inari Shrine, there is a stage from which you can see Nezu Shrine from the side and a beautiful view of the pond.
Main Hall
The main shrine, built in 1707, is an important cultural property and is beautifully decorated from wall to ceiling.
Tower Gate
The tower gate was built in 1707, offers a beautiful view of the azalea hill.
How was it?
If you are in Tokyo until the end of April, check it out!!
