Geisha and Maiko
Geisha is a traditional Japanese entertainers of especially party.
They can dance, play, sing a song and do games at the party.
Maiko is an apprentice Geisha 15-20 years old.
When you visit Kyoto, you will feel the traditional Japanese atmosphere, which is different from that of Tokyo and Osaka.
You may want to see geishas and maikos there.( Japanese people think same!)
However, they are not as common as you might think.
I show you times and places where you are more likely to see them.
1: Hanamikoji Street in Gion.
Between Shijo and Kenninji Temple.
Around 17:00-18:00 in the evening, geishas and maikos go out for a party.
2: Tatsumi Shrine, Gion.
From Shijo Street to this area.
3: Pontocho Park, Pontocho.
The area across the Kamo River from Gion.
Around 8:30-9:00, geishas and maikos often walk around Ponto-cho Park after a party.
