‘OOMIYA HIKAWA SHRINE’
I visited OOMIYA HIKAWA SHRINE, one of the oldest shrines in the east part of Japan.
It’s said founded the 5th emperor KOSHO era, over 2000 years ago.
It’s located in OOMIYA city, OOMIYA literally means’ big shrine’ , yes city name is from this shrine.
There was a big marshland in this area in ancient time , built 3 big shrines along the marshland.
1: OOMIYA HIKAWA shrine ( male
God)
2: HIKAWA NYOTAI shrine ( female
Goddess)
3: NAKAYAMA shrine ( child God)
These are lined straight along the ancient shore of the marshland.
On the summer solstice day the sun sets 1’s direction, on the winter solstice day sun rises from 2’s direction.
These positions are intentionally placed to remind the agricultural calendar of the year.
This shrine has a long approach of 2km , which is a nice granary area for city people.
The atmosphere is very calm and quiet , we can feel the ancient ambiance.
Next to this shrine there is a OOMIYA park which has the museum, baseball stadium, football stadium , bicycle race stadium, pond , shops and family area .
This park was a part of this shrine until 19th century, the local government renovated here as a city park.
The railway museum and OOMIYA Bonsai museum are close from this shrine.

You will feel the ancient atmosphere and modern Japan at the same time!!
