Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue Illumination
There are many illumination spots in Japan, too many to count.
In the latter half of November, the Christmas shopping season begins, and the lights come on.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to the illumination of Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue, just a few minutes’ walk from Tokyo Station.
It’s one of the most popular illumination spots in Tokyo.
We saw many couples were taking wedding memorial photos here!
Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue illumination is a winter tradition in the Marunouchi area, it’s 20th this year.
It’s from 11th November 2021 to 20th February 2022.
How to enjoy Marunouchi Nakadori
Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue is about 1.2 kilometers long.
Approximately 220 trees along the avenue are illuminated with 1.2 million glowing champagne gold LEDs.
Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue is a beautiful shopping avenue lined with top-brand stores and fashionable stores, restaurants and cafes.
There are Marunouchi Building and Marunouchi Brick Square commercial facilities near Tokyo station.
Near Hibiya Station, Nijubashi Square, KUNIGIWA, and other commercial facilities are open for business.
You’ll find casual apparel stores and luxury specialty stores too.
There are also tenants such as cosmetic stores and a wide variety of restaurants.
These are from Japanese to Italian, cafes to bars, and everything from lunch to dinner.
Another feature of Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue is its many cultural facilities.
Museums
Near Tokyo Station is the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Art Museum, and near Hibiya Station are the Idemitsu Museum of Art, Daiichi Seimei Gallery, and the Imperial Theater.
It would be fun to visit several museums in one day, or to share your impressions of a play at a nearby restaurant afterwards.
Sculptures in the street
The Marunouchi Street Gallery is an initiative by Mitsubishi Estate and the Mori Art & Culture Foundation.
It’s to create a town rich in artistic expression.
The works of modern sculptors and contemporary artists are displayed mainly along Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue.
While shopping on your day off, be sure to visit the sculptures lurking in the streets.
Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue is open to pedestrians as the “Urban Terrace”.
The time are from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Kitchen car
One of the most notable features is the kitchen car that changes daily during the lunch hour.
When the terrace is open to pedestrians, tables are set up along the street, so you can enjoy your lunch in the sunshine.
