Hanami is an event to appreciate cherry blossoms blooming in spring, which has been practiced in Japan since the Nara period (8th century).
Along with viewing the cherry blossoms, people enjoy drinking and eating under the blossoms with friends and family, and enjoying the arrival of spring.
History
The first recorded large-scale hanami was held in Shinsen-en in Kyoto in 812 by Emperor Saga.
Even today, hanami is enjoyed throughout Japan as an event to enjoy the arrival of spring.
