I and my son climbed Mt.Kurodake Daisetsuzan National Park in Hokkaido to see the first colorful autumn leaves of Japan.
Mt.Kurodake is famous for its first autumn leaves in Japan from early September.
Mt.Kurodake has a 1984m high peak in central Hokkaido that towers over Sounkyo Onsen. The mountain is one of the most easily accessible major peaks in Daisetsuzan National Park, with a ropeway and chair lift, and is a popular starting point for walks into the Daisetsuzan several peaks.
Sounkyo is a touristy hot spring resort town in Daisetsuzan National Park’s northwestern corner. It is situated in a picturesque, narrow ravine flanked by forested cliffs rising to a height of 100 meters. Sounkyo has a nice town center, onsen spas, and two lovely waterfalls nearby.
This is the way to Mt.Kurodake 1984m. We can see the autumn colorful leaves from the ropeway and along the trekking road.
We can see the sea of clouds from the 5th station observatory too.
We can reach 7th station by rope way 7 minutes and lift 15 minutes . Then trekked 1 hour to the top of Mt.Kurodake.
Of course you can enjoy Sounkyo onsen town after you trekked.
Sounkyo has a number of natural hot spas to choose from, including one public bath house in the town center, the Kurodake no Yu. This bath house features separate indoor and outdoor baths for men and women, as well as limited views of the surrounding environment.
More hot spring bathing is accessible at the town’s several hotels and ryokans, with several of them opening their pools to non-staying guests for a cost of roughly 1000 yen during the day.
But Kurodake no Yu public bath house by 600yen( 6 dollars) , very reasonable.
