Showa Kinen ( memorial) Park
I am here at Showa Kinen Park to enjoy beautiful autumn day.
This is the national park established as part of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Showa.
It’s for people of the present and future .
This park aim to develop a sound mind and body and cultivate wisdom in a natural environment.
The park was built on 180 hectares of the former Tachikawa Air Base site.
The park was opened on October 26, 1983, in the presence of Emperor Showa with an area of about 70 hectares.
After that , it followed the construction of Rainbow Pool, Children’s Forest, Japanese Garden, Sunagawa Exit, Bonsai Garden, etc.
In November 2005, the Green Culture Zone was opened to the public, and the Showa Emperor Memorial Hall was opened at the same time.
The park is located on the site of the former Tachikawa American Air Base and is designed to serve as a recreational facility as well as an evacuation site in the event of a large-scale disaster.
Entrance fee and rental bicycle
The vast site is bordered by five stations.
The entrance fee is 450 yen( 4.5 dollars).
You can also rent bicycles.
I recommend for those who want to get around more efficiently.
It costs 420 yen ( 4.2 dollars) for 3 hours and 530 yen for a full day.
This is a great place to have a picnic on a sunny day.
The grassy plaza in the middle of the park is popular for people playing with their friends and families.
